Dr. Cy J. SMith

ABOUT

Dr. Smith began his career at Mansfield Christian School in 1992 when he was hired to teach American History and Government. His dedication to MCS went outside the classroom, as he coached basketball, baseball, and softball while also serving as a class advisor. In 1995, Dr. Smith became the Assistant High School Principal and was later appointed to the Principal’s position in 1998, becoming the school’s first alumnus to serve as an administrator. He advanced to become only the eighth Superintendent at MCS (since 1961) in the spring of 2008.

As Superintendent, Dr. Smith championed a capital fundraising campaign from 2009-2011 for a new elementary wing that includes classrooms, offices, and a multipurpose room. Among numerous projects, his capital and facility upgrade efforts include soccer field lights, gym bleachers, gym scoreboards and floors, baseball field, locker rooms, electric signage, and a collaborative learning center.

In his tenure, Dr. Smith has created new core values and key behaviors for employees to guide them in achieving the mission and vision, while shaping the school’s culture. He has also led numerous faculty studies in professional development (for CEUs) as well as board retreats for strategic planning. As the spokesperson for both MCS and Christian education in the area, Dr. Smith speaks at local churches, civic organizations, community events, and media outlets such as the production of weekly radio spots entitled, “Christian Education Minute” for the school’s radio station, WVMC.

In 2014, Dr. Smith led Mansfield Christian to be named among the Top 50 Christian High Schools in America by TheBestSchools.org.
